Looking back, it's easy to see how every chapter of my life prepared me for the work I do today—even though I couldn't see it at the time.
My creative journey began at the University of Houston, where I studied Clarinet Performance while also earning my degree in Retail and Consumer Science. Music taught me discipline, patience, and the importance of practicing a craft until it became second nature. But by my sophomore year, I realized there was another creative world that kept capturing my attention: fashion.
That curiosity led me across the world to London, where I interned with fashion designer Vanessa Adeeko. It was there, surrounded by the excitement of the fashion industry, that I discovered fashion illustration. I fell in love with the way a simple sketch could communicate movement, personality, and emotion. When I returned home, I immersed myself in illustration—taking classes, filling sketchbooks, and spending countless hours developing my own style.
After graduating, I spent five years as a Visual Merchandiser for Nordstrom and Target, where I learned that thoughtful design has the power to shape how people feel. Creating beautiful spaces, styling merchandise, and paying attention to every detail deepened my appreciation for creating experiences rather than simply displaying products.
In 2021, life took me in a direction I never expected.
I moved to South Dakota to begin a new chapter with someone I loved, believing we were building a future together. I left behind my home in Houston, my family, and everything familiar with hope for what was ahead.
When that relationship unexpectedly ended, I packed up my life and moved straight back home to Houston, Texas. Returning home wasn't the ending I had imagined, but it gave me the opportunity to rediscover who I was and what I wanted to build.
As I searched for a new beginning, I picked up my sketchbook again. I returned to fashion illustration—not with a business plan, but with a desire to create something meaningful. I practiced every day, continued refining my craft, and began sharing my work online. What started as a creative outlet soon became something much bigger than I ever imagined.
That was the beginning of Gavi Leveaux.
As my work evolved, I discovered the world of live fashion illustration, where art becomes part of the celebration itself. Instead of creating artwork behind the scenes, I had the opportunity to illustrate guests in real time, allowing them to watch their portraits come to life before taking home a bespoke keepsake from the event. It was the perfect intersection of everything I loved—fashion, storytelling, hospitality, and creating meaningful experiences.
Today, Gavi Leveaux specializes in live fashion illustration for luxury weddings, corporate events, brand activations, retail experiences, and destination celebrations across the United States and internationally. From intimate wedding receptions to large-scale brand events, every illustration is created with the belief that the most meaningful keepsakes are the ones that make people feel seen.
When I look back on my journey, I don't see disconnected chapters. I see a story that was quietly unfolding all along. Music taught me discipline. Fashion taught me creativity. Visual merchandising taught me how thoughtful details create unforgettable experiences. And life's unexpected turns taught me resilience, faith, and the courage to begin again.
Those experiences shaped not only the artist I've become, but also the heart behind Gavi Leveaux.
